Starting Out: Enlightened

SCIENCE! Abominations! Blowing up your own troops! So what if we don’t have long range, as soon as we get over there we’ll make you regret it! Also, there’s a surprising amount of crabs. The direction they took this faction for A rmoured C lash is definitely interesting. I wasn’t expecting a tough melee force, but it’s been fun marching across the table with a horde that just won’t die. Hopefully we’ll get more elite options; the spoiled art has me hopeful. My general starting out guide for Armoured Clash can be found here . Overview Playstyle: Hordes of (Melee) Infantry, supported by fast cavalry and light tanks. Offense: Very punchy in melee, and strong short range shooting. Most things have an anti-light attack, for anti-heavy you need specialists or melee. Defence: Tough Infantry and Cavalry, while Tanks tend to be on the lighter end. Movement: Slow overall since you’ll be running a lot of infantry, but the supporting units are quick for their class. A lot of our units al...

Armoured Clash: Starting Out

I’ve been having a lot of fun with Armoured Clash lately, so I figured I’d get together some tips for starting out. I’ll also probably do separate posts for the individual factions. Edit 2025-07-09: added prices and custom unit cards Edit 2025-10-26: added another note on what to build and updated faction counts What is it? Armoured Clash is a 10mm combined arms tactical wargame, set in a pre-world war alternate history with a steampunk/weird science edge. Landships rumble forward supported by tanks and cavalry while lines of infantry march to their doom and artillery rains down fire. Tripods shoot deathrays while hunted by opposing air support. A Crown armoured column blocked by Union mechs You generally want to bring a mixed force of infantry, tanks, cavalry/bikers, and artillery, with an emphasis on infantry and cavalry to hold objectives. Hanging back is a quick way to lose on objectives. Gameplay has been smooth, with very few gotchas. I’ve written battle reports for a few of ...

Starting Out: Imperium

Trains, Zeppelins, and Giant Robots. Or maybe you’re just a fan of traditional warships. Either way, the Imperium has you covered. The lists I’m suggesting are leaning towards good lists, but fairly balanced in playstyle for new players. I’m not aiming to go all in on one particular aspect. This was written for the 3.05 Orbat. Overview The Imperium strikes me as a Jack-Of-All-Trades Faction made up mostly of specialists. Most of your unit choices are good at one specific thing, while also being at least decent at assaulting. You can bring an answer for anything, but then again a list can only fit so much. Scandinavians are a bit different. All of their ships mount a lightning cannon in the front, and are ridiculously good at assaulting. Even their merchant ships. Especially their merchant ships. They’re more suited to a rush in play style. Offense : Strong at close and medium range, with good assault. Scandinavians lean even more into close range and assaulting. Defence: T...

Starting Out: Enlightened

So you’ve decided to join up in the pursuit of science, progress, and turning whales into research assistants. Below I’ll be doing a quick overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the faction, followed by going through the various options available for starting with the Enlightened. I’m going to be suggesting what I think is a strong 1000 point list with the contents of the box. I don’t believe in dumbing down anything for new players, but I’ll list how complex I think it is, from a new player’s perspective and ease of understanding. Enlightened to tend to be on the complicated end overall though. I’ll try to keep things simple, but no promises. This was written for the 3.03 Orbat, and updated for 3.04. Lists have not been updated, though point costs have stayed relatively close, so there shouldn’t be any huge issues. Overview Shooting: Enlightened have some of the strongest ranged weapons in the game. The Particle Beamer has you covered for pretty much everything, and o...

Dystopian Wars: Starting Out

So you're interested in Dystopian Wars, or have already decided to give it a shot. Here's a bit of general advice and things to watch out for. Rules Everything you need to play the game is available free online at dystopianwars.com . The tab Resources holds the game rules as well as printable versions of the templates and cards you need. Under the tab Factions, the ORBAT button leads to the rules for that particular faction. The orbats (Order of Battle) tend to get updated when new units are released. Dystopian Wars does use bespoke dice, but they map directly onto a standard D6, so you can play without them if necessary. Listbuilders No dedicated software currently exists. There is a battlescribe dataset maintained by a kind soul on the discord. Since lists in this game are quite simple, I personally use excel for the point calculation and then put together a cheatsheet with all the needed rules. Game Size The standard size the game is balanced for is between 1500 and ...
